Welcome to The SHCoop with Super Human Collective!
The SHCoop (/shko͞op/) is a monthly newsletter from Super Human Collective that answers the question, "What's the scoop?" This is our first edition of 2021 and our second edition EVER!
This January, Super Human is all about teamwork.
Teamwork is what makes a fully improvised show look like a scripted play. On stage, we trust each other to bring something to the table. We rely on teammates to catch us if we flounder. Our best shows are the ones where we build on each other's ideas with unconditional support.
Getting through 2020 took a lot of teamwork. Super Human Collective relied heavily on each other over the past year for positivity, commiseration, and comfort when it seemed like things couldn't get any worse. We laughed! We cried! We drank prosecco standing six feet away from each other in Katie's backyard!
Working as a team is often easier said than done. It's tempting to put your own ideas first or take a lone wolf approach. However, in work and in life, collaboration tends to produce greater creativity and more interesting results. Sure, it requires some vulnerability, but it's totally worth it.
In fact, teamwork saved Sarah's ass during a workshop we did with HRHotSeat, a networking community for human resources professionals. Sarah was set to introduce Super Human Collective and begin the first exercise. Lo and behold, Zoom sent her to the wrong breakout room. Katie and Mary Cait stepped in and covered for her. A small, but mighty move.
"I cannot stress enough how good it felt to know they had my back," Sarah said. They weren't stealing thunder, they were supporting a teammate.
On top of that, Mary Cait and Katie hosted a female empowerment event for a group of women with participants as young as 13 and as old as 80. "It was such a joy exploring the vibe of the women in attendance with Mary Cait," Katie said. "We got to flow through the subtle changes we were making on the fly together."
Lo and behold...
Let us know how teamwork impacts you in January, and we may give you a shout out in February!
